I won this book through a first reads giveaway. For some reason I keep winning all the YA books. I guess someone knows I'm young at heart though the same cannot be said for my body. Sigh. Even though this was categorized as YA, I found the writing to be mature and well formulated. The story, unique unto itself, had a Robert Jordan Wheel of Time feel to it, but in a much abbreviated format. I loved the concept of the two sides of magic balancing and complementing each other. My heart broke when [...]
Awesome. Just awesome! What a perfect mix of romance, betrayal, mystery, adventure, magic, action, and suspense. Loved it! I'll give stars to originality, plot, story, characters and their development, and how much this book got me hooked! Just loved it! :) I wish there was more though :( i miss it already :P
I won this book from . I enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and interesting. My attention was kept though the entire book. I am putting this author on my list of authors I want to keep up with.
This book threw the reader into a story of romance, action, destiny and betrayal. Everything in this book flowed together and the twists always were a surprise. The creative names and creatures hardly seen in other stories came to life in Magicless, each with their own secrets and problems hidden deep inside. There was always an obstacle to overcome, a destination to make. The characters displayed real life emotions and decisions throughout the book. I consider this a clean read with hardly any [...]
It's here! I had the privilege of working with the author on this book during the editorial stage, and I am so proud to have been a part of its journey. Magicless has it all: action, magic, romance, pathos, humor, satisfying character arcsI could go on, but you get the picture ;)I know I'm obviously a biased reviewer, here, but I stand behind those five stars wholeheartedly. I hope readers enjoy getting to know Micah and Alekka and their crew as much as I did while editing this book.
Engaging, interesting, engrossing and enjoyable. I felt most of the characters were well written and it was easy to get attached to them. The story catches you and won't let you put the book down. I am only giving four stars because as much as I loved the main characters and the story, I felt like the ending was too easy without an explanation as to why (intentionally vague as to not give anything away). Despite this, you will love this and I highly recommend you pick it up.
I won this book in a giveaway. The idea is fantastic. I loved the idea of Magicless' gifts. It was decently paced, but it left me feeling hollow at the end - not like the book wasn't finished, but like the entire story was finished when it was (I'm sure) stated to be the first of a trilogy/series.
I am not particularly a fan of young adult fiction, but this was an enjoyable read that was paced well and gave me really defined characters. I really liked that the romance was there, but not overdone and the relationships with the characters evolved naturally. This would be a story that I would recommend to fellow fantasy readers most definitely! I can't wait to read the next installment!
I read it all in one day! Such a good story, I am sad it is over. Thanks KFerrin! You just upped the bar on syfy and fantasy.
The Yin Yang of Magic and Non-Magic In the village of Aclay where everyone has magical powers except Micah—aka Magicless—no one can stop the sporadic pillaging attributed to Amentis, the Dark Wizard. The author takes the reader on a plausible journey to Noz Noctis with six well-defined characters whose purpose is to restore balance in the world at the peril of risking their own lives. Along the way, each will come to terms with the notion that evil wears many faces, and things aren’t alway [...]
Magicless, by author K. Ferrin, is an intriguing look at a journey by seven members of a village. Their goal is to stop a Dark Wizard who's been kidnapping women and babies for centuries. Each has his or her own reason for making the trek, and that helps to sharply differentiate these multi-faceted characters. The plot is built around two themes: Exclude those who are different from you at your peril; and, there's boundless strength in friendship and teamwork. The writing was clear and sharp, the [...]
